Be Careful What You Wish For!
Recently, we each sat down and revisited our 'Why' – that big, burning reason we draw inspiration from to accomplish our life's goals. From there, we moved on to create 'the What,' which is just another term for the goals we aspire to achieve. In our case, this meant working through all the experiences we wanted to have and the milestones we aimed to reach.
Defining Our Dreams - Moving Abroad
Our list included dreams like traveling to every country in Europe, buying a first home for Wolf by 2025, and owning houses with gardens in Italy, Greece, and France. We fantasized about cars, gardens, airplanes, boats, kitchens, housekeepers, and taking cooking lessons in Italy. Then, we made lists of all the personal achievements we sought: continued learning in finance and trading, eating better, exercising to feel healthier, losing weight, getting our YouTube channel with 100,000 subscribers, writing a book, and more.
Crafting Personal and Financial Goals
Next, we tackled our financial goals: amassing $5 million by 2028, securing $1 million in investment accounts for Wolf by age 30, maintaining one year of emergency funds for each of us, and helping others and our children build their dreams. The idea was to go wild, writing down anything we dreamed of. We didn’t hold back, allowing ourselves to imagine and list even the most extravagant aspirations.
Breaking Down the Big Picture
Once we completed this brainstorming session, the fun part began: breaking our dreams into one-year, two-year, and five-year goals. Each of us chose our top three "thing" goals, top three personal goals, and top three money goals. This breakdown made our ambitions feel more manageable and provided clear, actionable steps to follow.
My Personal Mission
As for me, Leslie, I am dedicated to helping my stepchildren and my son understand their finances and achieve financial independence as soon as possible, giving them a freedom we never had. I'm also focused on growing and expanding my financial independence and our reach so we can help others accomplish their goals, whether it's becoming financially free, moving abroad, or anything else. And yes, I will finally write that book – just as soon as I decide what it will be about. You tell me your thoughts.
Overcoming Overwhelm and Embracing Change
Isn't life great? Don’t you love the idea that you are never too old to pursue your dreams? Sometimes, I do scare myself because I get overwhelmed. I remember when we sold everything we owned to move abroad, trying to figure out what we should and shouldn't do, finding people we could trust, and seeking someone to guide us. When it comes to finance, we found our mentor in Warren Buffett. That was an easy choice.
Isn't it exhilarating to realize that no matter your age, the world is at your feet? All you need to do is open the door and have courage. Whether it’s learning new skills like cooking in Italy, improving our health, or diving deeper into financial education, the pursuit of knowledge and growth keeps us energized and motivated. With our detailed plans and unwavering determination, we’re on our way to achieving our most cherished dreams. It’s a journey that promises excitement, growth, and endless possibilities.
